Video card recommendation?

Hi all,
I'm getting the upgrade bug. Currently my video card is a Geforce 2 Ti 64 mb DDR card. I play a few games in addition to Links...RTCW and MOHAA and more recently 007 Nightfire so the card is getting a workout. My system is a Athlon XP 1600+, 512 DDR memory on a MSI K7T266 Pro 2 motherboard.
Any video recommendations that would make a worthwhile difference? As I am somewhat frugal (not to mention I have to keep this "under the radar"...lol), I am interested in the sweet spot between price and performance not the absolute bleeding edge for mega dollars.
Any advice?
Thx
Gary

I think that most people will agree that the new Radeon 9500pro at $197 (about) is the current bang for the buck at the higher end. At the $100 mark (about) I like the Radeon 8500 128 meg (not the LE though), but some people like other cards.

I've got the 8500 LE 128Mb and it's running at 300/300. Very sweet card IMO. I upgraded from the Ti200. If you're looking for a bit more power, you might wanna try the 9500 Pro. 🙂

I guess it depends on what the budget is, but you can get a Ti4200 for about $130 or a Radeon 9500 Pro for around $175-200 depending if you want retail or OEM.

there's no point in getting the GeForce 4 Ti4200 when you can get for about 50-60$ more a Radeon 9500 Pro that's faster than a Ti4600 and has DirectX9 support ...

Sorry for chiming in.. I was thinking about moving up to the GF4 Ti4200 from the GF3 Ti200. Significant enough upgrade or should I skip this card and go for something like the 9500 Pro?

I agree with the 9500 Pro for around $200. You should get quite a bit of life out of the card. It has DirectX 9 support; if you plan on having the same card for another two years then that could come in handy.

The GF4 Ti4200 is probably the next best step down. For under $150 this is a pretty sweet card. It lacks the efficient anisotropic filtering capabilities of ATi's card. However, the FSAA is much more useable.

The Radeon 8500LE is the next cheapest card I would go for. It can be had for a slightly under $100. The FSAA slows things down quite a bit. However, the adaptive anisotropic filtering is really nice (I don't play any games without it).

well...

if you dont want to spend $200 for the radeon 9500 pro which is an awesome deal compared to gf4 4600

getting a 128 mb gf4 4200 from gainward or another recommeded make of the 4200 would be a good value as well being half a notch better than the 8500le 128mb and worth the price premium over the 8500 for ~$140-$150 wincluding cost of a blue orb so yo ucan OC the thing to 4400 speeds

the 8500 is a good value as well but gf4 4200 should be a touch nicer.... the price difference between

8500le 128mb

gf4 4200 128mb

9500pro

seem to scale well interms of price and performance
