Video card question.

I've been thinking of getting a new Geforce 4 4200 Ti 128 mb DDR to replace my current Geforce 2 Ti 64 mb DDR.
I can get a Chaintech GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128MB VIVO Special Edition for a reasonable price.
Is this more or less the same as the MSI GEFORCE 4 TI 4200 128MB DDR SDRAM that I have been looking at?
In the past I have trusted MSI but I can get this Chaintech at a good price.
Any opinions?
Thx
Gary

well i have the card you are looking at and.....NO REGRETS! it is a champ! i have heard a few horror stories about msi cards

Do you think I will notice a big enough difference from my current card? I play MOHAA and RTCW. Or do you think I should wait until the ATI 9700 shakeout is over?

You will notice a difference. Framerates will be a lot smoother in the same resolution that you've been playing at. But 4200 and 9700 have a pretty big gap, performance wise. If you can get the Chaintech for ~$120 or less then I say go for the Chaintech. The 9700 may dip below ~$200 after the 9900 comes out, but the drop below $150 for the 9700 probably wont happen till later this year. If you're willing to pay $100 more for the 9700 then I'm sure you wont regret it. If you think you just need something good to get by, you may as well save that $100 and get the 4200. It'll serve you good for another 9 months.

*edit* If you're an OC'er then get the 9500 and OC it to 9700 PRO 🙂

I went from a GeForce2 GTS 32MB to my VisionTek GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/ 128MB of ram and I saw huge performance increases, even with my older Pentium3 800 dualie box. My 3DMark score doubled. Now that I'm running a 1.8GHz P4 my score almost doubled again. You will see big gains.

Thanks for the info. Aside from the Geforce 4 chipset are there any preferred boards you like?

get a saphire 9500 NP 128mb bulk at newegg for $160, softmod it using w1zzards driver hack, overclock via Rivatuner, and viola! 9700PR0!
