Video Card problems

so this is basically what happens when i start counter strike.

ruled out it being a steam problem because i uninstalled and re-installed and it works fine on other computers. My entire computer locks up when this happens, and it sometimes does it when im playing WoW too.

on the bright side it reminds me of playing on a light bright.

I have an 8800gts, driver version 6.14.11.8208 (the latest i think) and i have the fan control at max when im playing a game. I blew dust out yesterday so i dont think its a dust problem.

system specs:
q6600
3gb (2gb of wintec ampo and 1gb of ocz gold)
8800gts
gigabyte 965p-ds3 (old i know)
24"w acer and 19"fp viewsonic

Anyone have any solutions? or things i could try?


EDIT: i should note that vlc media player told me my opengl driver encountered an error and had to close when i was watching a movie just now.

But seriously, uninstall drivers and reinstall. May be corrupt. If needed, use driver cleaner pro for a thorough uninstall.

EDIT: this could account for the entire computer locking up as well?

Maybe, but also may point to overheating issues. Check your temps too.

temps never seem to get above 65c in the matrix.
the other day it was at 70c for a few minutes,

Just out of curiosity, were there any updates you had done recently? Either voluntary or involuntary? Any new applications you recently installed?

Get back to us on the driver reinstall though.

sorry this took a while went out to dinner. umm. as far as updates what im aware of at least...was AVG updated, CCleaner updated, and a few games on steam updated. thats all i am aware of though.

reinstalled the drivers and havent had any issues so far.

doing good so far. accident free for almost a day.

EDIT: crashed today "nv4_display stopped working"


so driver issue? i have the latest release (4-02-09)

=[ can't roll back because i didnt a clean driver install.

next step to take off the second monitor and see if that works?
