Video Card Problems

My comp use to work fine...

I haven't played any video games in a couple of weeks, but I wanted to play today and this is what happens, the game (simcity 4, c&c:generals, ravenshield) loads but when something loads up which the video card has to process (after loading a city and going into the actual game, the c&c generals menu screen with all the units in, going into a campaign) the computer restarts itself

Updated the sound card, video card, scsi card drivers

amd chip
epox 8k7a
bfg asylum geforce 4 ti 4200
2 linksys network card
adaptec 29160 scsi card
sound blaster audigy xgamer

installed directx9.0a (nividia menu screen shows it as 8.1)
all window updates

i don't think i've installed anything recently

Go to your system settings and to the advanced tab and then to your startup and recovery settings

Make sure the auto-restart is not checked

Report back here with what error the BSOD contains after doing this.

If it's IRQL_NOT_ something something then it's most likely a driver problem.

9.0a I think is useless for the 4200 because the hardware isn't compliant with the new software. It shouldn't cause crashes though because DX is reverse-compatible. However, mine did that to me as well when I upgraded to 9 (I have the 4600). I had to format because DX can't be removed once installed! 🙁

also, i found a directx9.0a uninstall program which puts your winxp back to the directx that comes with your winxp cd and still no luck...
