Video Card Overheating???

I've got a 6800 non ultra non gt so standard I guess. Its been running at around 49*C at most after heavy gaming for hours. I've got it overclocked to 390 on the core and 930 on the mem. Never had a problem heating up, ran great, plenty fast. Recently I loaded on 3Dmark 01, 03, and 05. Benchmarked, checking the core temp after every test, usually 47-49C. The day after I started playing Halo and started getting artifacts. Never a problem so I was rather worried. Checked the core temp after less than five minutes of playing and it was 69*C! The fans are all running, I haven't changed anything except monitor refresh rate and color qualities in the general menu on the card. Any idea what the hell would cause a jump like this??? I've switched it back to default, no help. After overclocking, it only ran 4-8 deg hotter than stock. Any help would be great!

I don't know about a standard 6800...
but GTs average stock core temp idle is around 53-60 and load around 70-90

So if you are maxxing at 69, I don't think heat is an issue.

It states cor slowdown threshold is around 156*C on the core temp display so I guess it can run a little hotter. I'm just trying to figure out why I'm seeing artifacts when its never been a problem. I'm guessing heat since its never run that hot before. Why else could artifacts be showing up?
