my video card has 128mb ddr on it, and it can't handle smoke effects real well.... if i were to overclock it, would that help render the smoke effects?

Depends on the video card... my old Ti4200 was a night and day difference after I overclocked it from 260/500 to 325/650 😀

I've got my 175/400 ti200 now up to 220/520, which is a serious boost, but still it's only like 25-30%, and if your frame rate is crap, like 15 FPS, it still won't be good enough with that amount of boost! I need a new card 🙁

My 3DMark2001 score went from just under 11000 to almost 15000 with my overclock

That's pretty good! Mine didn't jump more than 10-15%.

Right-click your desktop, go to Properties, then click on Settings and tell us what it says under "Display:". Your card model will help determine whether overclocking it will do any good. A 9200SE or 9600SE for instance won't OC much at all (this is unless you use the right program 😉 )

If you turn down particle density, which is a setting on most games, you'll see a big improvement. You'll even see through the smoke.
Good Luck
