i have my e6400 @ 3.0ghz and i have the pci-e mhz set to 100 in the bios is there anything else i had to set so that i would get the normal performance from my video card? i have an x1950xt and it seems to be having errors, locking up, sometimes creating system reboots, and when the computers comes back up i get a warning from ati CCC saying it encountered an error, i recently reformatted and i install the latest version of dx9. any thoughts?

the extra heat from you other overclock could be messing it up. what chipset are you running? just because catalyst center is talking does not mean it is the culprit...

i assume that you have run this setup with out the over clock with no problems right? the video card isn't just bad to begin with? if you can try a different vid card.
that out of the way, seriously try to fix your heat issue, video cards really hate being too hot. the x1950xt is already running really high freqs. so it needs the cooling it deserves. also, not to patronize you, but make sure that it is not your ram, cpu, or other component screwing with you. make sure your chipset is also staying cool. thats about all i have to say on the matter. i cant think of too much else to look at...

What power supply are you using? If you've moved up from a weaker video card, and not gotten a more powerful psu, that's likely the culprit. Will your system run Orthos for 8-12 hours @ 3.0 Ghz? If so, it's your psu.

well the problems started when i was ocing so i assumed it was due to the overclock. i am still trying to figure out which program is accurate and which program is lieing to me about temps but i will run memtest tonight and see what the results are. as far as chipset i dont think its overheating, i strapped a small fan onto the heatsink so that it would blast air, it also has the air from the heatsink and 2 120mm fans in the front to keep it cool

in regards to the psu, i have an antec sp 500w. i used it with my opty rig w/ a 7800gt so i figured it would be good, i havent run orthos but i will do so tomorrow during my work hours

i like myocardia's idea. if orthos will run at the overclock speed fine, but when you are using the CPU AND the video card stressed, and it messes up, the extra draw could be throwing it over the edge.

I forgot to include this screenshot of how much amperage my X1900XT uses: link. Note that that screenshot isn't even in fullscreen mode. Oh, and there's no way that an SP 500 is going to reliably run a 3 Ghz C2D, along with an X1950XT. It's definitely your problem.
