Hi.

I put together a new system last month. It consists of a MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum mother board, a A64 3200+ 90nm processor, BFG 6800 GT OC Video Card, and a gig of 400mhz corsair RAM. The computer runs great, except when I begin to play Counter Strike: Source for an extended period of time -- 30minutes. After playing for a while, my screen just goes blank, like the video shut off or something. The only way to fix it is if I shut off the computer from the Power Supply, and then reboot. I tested to see if the video card was over heating, and I got about 85C after 20 minutes of play. This is a high temperature since I live in a dorm room, however it doesn't seem to be high enough for things to just crash like that. I have the latest drivers.

Please help me solve my problem =).
 
Ok, I just found out that my Lian Li PC 86 case may be the issue here. It has two intake fans, and 1 exhaust fan. Apparently this can lead to positive pressure, ie: leaving heat to buildup in the case. This makes sense, so I am going to have to learn how to make a hole in my case and install the fan. Does anyone know if there are websites out there that sell replacement panels for PC-86s? I am looking to replace the left panel of the case with a similar see-through one, with a possiable fan in there as well.
 
Adding to the problems I am having, my computer seems to freeze 30% of the time I restart. The freeze occures when Windows is fully booted up and some of my start-up apps turn on.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.
 
I'm having an almost identical problem on a new system I built--Chaintech KT600 mobo, VIA KT600 + VT8237 chipset, ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 video card. I was thinking it was video driver related--I can get past the bios into xp when I've got the mobo fsb jumpers set to 133, but not when they're set to 166 (which is what it has to have to recognize my AMD 2700 cpu). Plus even at the lower fsb I get the "black out" that you describe--fans stop, hds stop, I have to shut it down by turning off the ps in order to reboot.

Did you ever find a solution? I'd be interested to hear it. 🙂
 
I had this problem while playing doom 3, it turned out that my video card wasn't getting enough power. After I took out two hard drives that weren't really needed I never had the problem again.
 
Hmm...I hadn't thought of that. I do have an extra hard drive in there right now (pulling in old files), plus 2 dvd drives, plus the 128M video card...maybe it IS a little much. 🙂

I'll try unplugging something and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!
