Video card in SLI mode

I got a ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe and 2x Nvidia 6600GT in SLI mode. When I`m trying to run f.ex 3DMark 05 my monitor goes black, but when I`m deactivating SLI, 3DMark 05 works fine.

Do someone know what the problem is?

Its probably a simple fix.

Do you have the latest drivers off nvidia's sitE?

As for where the config problem on your system is, we'll havta consolidate and isolate. I do not have an ASUS or 6600s, so I don't know of config-specific issues that would be in your mobo right off, so I will begin by asking you for a complete list of your exact setup (power supply, etc). I don't want to assume you're using Win XP, so lemme know if you're not. What video drivers are you using? What monitor?

In the craphics card information it stands that the bustype is PCI Express x8 but I have PCIexpress x16

Did you connect the EZ-Plug for more power? Also is your PCB to enable SLi connected? I know these seem like stupid questions, but let's start at the Physical layer and see where we get.

Just saw you cross-posted this in the Tech forum as well. Try not to do that. Anyway, the guy who responded in that thread had a good point.

This is what the little connector should look like. And here it is connecting to cards.

Then, there's also the EZ-Card connector that needs to be connected the correct way (i.e. for DUAL CARDS).

It wasent me that build the computer, it was a professional company that build it. But everything looks to be connected right

That's the problem with having someone else build it. You don't get to learn as you go and can't troubleshoot problems.

Crack open that case and verify those two connectors that I linked pics to are connected correctly.

Don't put too much stock in these "professional" builders. Anyone can make a mistake.

If the PCB bridge and the EZ-card is incorrectly connected, it would not be possible to enable SLI in the drivers. Thats true?

Those two connecters is exactly connected like it is showned on the pictures

Okay, trying to get a full picture of what is happening...

You run 3dmark05 (or any game?) in a single 6600 config... you plug the single card in the BLUE slot, with the EZ-Card connector installed so that the "single video card" arrow is pointing at the BLUE video card slot. The SLi bridge wouldn't be connected at all. You make sure that the 71.89 drivers don't have SLi checked, and everything runs fine, correct?

Now, when you connect the second 6600 to the BLACK slot, turn the EZ-card connector around so that "dual video cards" arrow points to the Black slot, connect the SLi Bridge, check the SLi in the 71.89 drivers, reboot, and then run 3dmark05 and it goes black. Correct?

Not exactly as you wrote. Both video cards, PCB and the EZ-Card is connected and the only thing I do is enabling SLI in the drivers and it goes black, when I`m disabling SLI it works.

You are making sure that you are rebooting after you enable Sli correct?

You should be doing it the way I described. Which VGA/DVI slot is your monitor plugged into (i.e. which video card-- the blue slot or black slot?)? Try swapping to the other card.

I have almost the exact same setup except I have Evga Cards.
You can try flipping the video card positions incase the second card has a problem.
Switch them and run 3dmark. See what happends.

BTW, when you are running the cards in sli you have 2 8x slots, 16x is only when you have 1 plugged in.

My monitor is plugged into the blu PCI slot . If i`m switching to the black slot the monitor is black. In the manual it stands that the VGA or DVI cable must stand in the blue slot

1. remove both cards. Install only 1 card. Use the blue pci-e slot. Remove the EZ-Card and make sure it's got the arrow pointing for a SINGLE card toward the blue pci-e slot when u put it back in.
2. run 3dmark05.
3. if it works, shut down. take out that card and set aside. Put in the other card into that same blue slot. reboot and rerun 3dmark05. if it works, then at least you know both cards are functioning.
4. now, take the second card that is sitting aside (that you tried first in step 1) and stick it into the black pci-e slot.
5. move the EZ-card from "single" to "dual", with the arrow by dual pointing to the blue pci-e slot.
6. reboot, enable SLi, reboot again.
7. run 3dmark.
8. if your monitor goes blank, move its VGA connector to the other card instead.

I would say if that does work try a bios flash on the mobo, just in case, if this doesn't work, call whoever made it for you and get it exchanged. Sorry, I can't think of anything else!

Go to asus's website and look up the a8n-sli and then you should see a link to a downloader for a bios update, I believe the board has one which you can run from windows. DL the update and run the program, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT TURN THE POWER OFF UNTIL IT IS DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or allow any other interuption, so close all p2p, game, basically any windows. After this is done, try it and see what happends.
