I have to totally dis-agree with shadenfroh, get a 9600 or 9800 on a good sale for now. by fall the full lines of the cards will be in high production and prices should have dropped more than the price of teh 9600 you may decide to get.

4-5 grands is a total waste of money for PCs, 2 grands are more than enough, unless you wanna buy a Pentium 4 EE or an Athlon FX-53, well that's a different case.
Anyway, if you're willing to play 4-5 thousands, you could check Alienware's high end systems, they build the fastest systems I've ever seen.
As for your graphics card, yeah the 9800Pro is awsome for today's games, and it will be fine for summer's upcoming games. It's around 200$, you could search for it at pricegrabber.com.

just to make things clear, when I said awsome, I meant the 9800Pro will play your games with high resolution with maximum settings.
By the way, when are you buying your killer system? First you said Fall, now you're saying summer

If it's just temporary, get a used 4x00 - should be about $50 and will let you play Far Cry in decent reso/detail (I play in 10x7 with no aa/af, with all in-game settings on their highest - 2.6b, 4600, gb ram, stock speeds). All other games currently out should run better, as I can't think of any that come close to FC's requirements.

Why buy parts to have them sit around for a few months before you build, especially high end parts? Generally PC parts only drop in price, so you might be able to save yourself a lot of money by waiting until the fall to buy. Also, you can usually only RMA defective parts for a certain amount of time, so if any of your parts are defective you'll probbaly be stuck with them.
