whats your budget for the mobo/cpu/ram and we can make suggestions. On the cheap a athlon II Quad and 785G board would be pretty good and perform well, buying new ram would be a great idea as well, 4GB kits can be had for cheap now.

This is not for my PC however the CPU is a single core Pentium 4. Corsair 550w PSU along with 4GB of memory.

Maybe I could get away wit a 5750?

Pentium 4? Are you serious? You can forget about SC2 most likely. I wouldn't spend $150 on a videocard with a Pentium 4 (single core). Start thinking about picking up any budget CPU + mobo + ram and even a $60 used 9800GT will SMOKE a Pentium 4 with a GTX480.

Toyota did they even make a pent 4 board with a pci-e slot? 4 gb of memory?
He has a Corsair 550 watt psu with that system?
Somethings is not right here.

Yes most of them on the later boards have pci-express hell pic-express came out on the 6000 seris cards that was 2004 not very far . Most people forget that even during the Pentium D days there were a lot of 600 series pentium 4 hyper-thread cpus being sold on the low end I have about 200 of such hp's that just got upgraded at my work.

You will be better with a new video card but I recommend seeing if there are bios upgrades for a low end core 2 to swap in there or just replace the system.
