The cable guy came to install my house and mentioned another person who he installed services for that used a Video card with the ability to record 4 stations at once and had HDMI out to allow him to watch TV on his 42inch but from his computer vs paying whatever the prices are for the boxes they give you.

Anyone know what kind of video card might have been used in this scenario? The only cable provider in my area is unheard of group called Sudden link. I'm attempting to save money however I can and if a TV card would do this im all about it.

Thanks in advance,

I am not sure how you will save money. Some video capture cards allow you to record video while watching it. But they still need to be connected to the cable or satellite receiver to get the video feed to start with. This is one of the better cards:

Here are some others:

You can also get TV tuner cards (some combined with the video capture feature) but then you are dependent on the quality of the TV reception - and the few channels available that way:

The best deal I have found is Netflix - their selections are large - but the online feeds (as compared to paying more to also get DVDs shipped) is still not comprehensive. I have the package for about $25 a month that allows me the online content and 3 DVDs at a time. I really like Netflix.

Beyond that, an increasing number of TV shows are available free online - many directly from the network's website and some through other aggregators.
