Video card for older system...

My friend has a rig as follows:
P4 1.4 Ghz
384Mb Rambus RAM
Geforce4 MX440
Dual monitors

Anyone have recommendations for a good video card for him? He wants to get a FX5700, but I think that's a little much for the system. Am I right?

Thanks for any info

Guess it's ok but IMO it's bordering on too fast for the system. Utilizing AA/AF then I suppose it's worth it or for games that are mostly video card bound.

I wouldn't worry about any video card being "too much" for his existing system. Even if the rest of the system becomes the bottleneck, he can still take advantage of all the other benefits (ie higher res, FSAA/Aniso, better IQ, etc..). I think a better question would be how much he is willing to pay. I think at the minimum, he should get a DX9 compatible video card.

MSI offers a very nice 5900XT package. It is also the #1 ranked card on pcworld's top 10 chart, as far as the whole card in general is concerned. It's also a very quiet card. What strikes me as neat about the card is the fact that it includes 3 games, one which is Morrowind the Elderscrolls III (Fun game) 🙂
