keep in mind that step up with evga means
1. no video card, as they have no cross shipping.
2. you get ripped off on the cost of the cards, they price them completely unreasonably and take much MUCH more then the market value.

I prefer XFX for the double lifetime... but really all of those three are good.
The whole "support for aftermarket cooler..."... just put back the original cooler before sending it in! you would have to anyways if you want to keep your aftermaket cooler (since they send another card, not your own card back).

Now is a bad time to buy, new generation irght around the corner (june 16th for AMD, june 18h for nvidia)

Now might be THE time to buy. The new cards are going to be premium priced for quite a while and I'm not clear that for the next generation cards that we won't be cpu bottlenecked. Last, the price performance for these cards is amazing. I have core duo 6600 and a x1950pro and have always bought "2nd tier" cards for price performance. Last but not least, I'm a flight simulator kind of guy, not a crysis guy and should get the performance I want from this generation of cards.

Just trying to figure out which brand to spend my $ on.

My 2cents only

the new cards will cause existing cards to drop down in price... A LOT... plus you will find many "used for 1 month" cards on ebay.

also the 4870 is supposed to be 250$ and 25% faster then the 8800GTX. and the 4850 @ 200$ 25% faster then 8800GT. And the G200 at LOTS$ about as fast as a 4870x2. (or the G100... rather cheaply, and very fast)...
Also, physX on CUDA supposed to come out with the G200 on july 18th... and it needs to be benchmarked for its value before one makes a decision IMAO.

The 4870 might be a good deal, but if the 4850 is 25% faster than the 8800gt at 200, isn't that a bad deal? Unless you need the extra 25% performance. 8800gt are going for an average of 150 now. 25% above that would be 187.50? Plus unless ATI is stockpiling inventory right now, it will probably go for above MSRP.

The 8800GT is not likely to drop alot more - it was $220-250 at intro and now is 140-160. It has likely already taken its drop and vacated the prior price points for the new AMD and Nvidia replacements. I would be surprised to see the GT in the $120-140 or lower range.
Still looking for some comments on the xfx 8800gt zalman

Those are the rumored prices and performance... no gaurentee that it will end up being a good deal. the 8800GT are currently underpriced because people just dont want to buy an "older" GF8 part, and those that know about real performance choose the 8800GTS 512 over it because it is worth so much and costs only a little more.
