Currently have an 8800GT. I'm receiving a GTX260 on xmas. I plan on reformatting my computer tomorrow (I know I don't have to but it's been awhile). Both cards, according to nvidia, use the same driver version currently.

If I reformat tomorrow and install the driver that they both use, on xmas can I just switch the cards and the GTX260 will work fine? Or will I have to reinstall the drivers.

Thanks!

better to reinstall the driver. driver installation detects card that you have. and it is like 5 mins work.

Going NVIDIA to NVIDIA you can probably just uninstall, reinstall the drivers.

If you want to be thorough, uninstall, reboot. Reboot to safe mode, use Driver Sweeper to remove remnants of NVIDIA display drivers. Shut down, install your new card, and latest drivers from nvidia.com.

I agree with nRollo. That is all I ever done, I just uninstalled the drivers, installed the card then just reinstalled. But if you are formatting, it shouldnt make a difference regardless.

He's formatting, installing, and reinstalling, so he should uninstall/reinstall at least.

Alright cool. Because I wanted to get everything reinstalled today so tomorrow I don't spend all day reinstalling everything and I can just swap my cards out. I usually uninstall drivers, reboot in safe mode, run driver cleaner pro, reboot, install, reboot.
