Hi guys, i need help regarding my video card.

So I was cleaning the dust of my computer last night, too much gunk for my taste. Cleaning using compressed air can.

Anyway, after finishing, i cleaned up and restarted the computer, i worked like a champ. I moved some anime to dvd and deleted some unused files in hard drive (mostly anime or old games). I did spyware check using ad-aware, virus check using nod32, then i defragmented my drive all while i was reading a book.

So the defrag was done and i fell asleep till the morning came, lo and behold in the morning, my screen looks as it was tearing, colors messed up and no screen saver on. I put on regular screen saver after 5 min of inactivity.

Anyway, i retried rebooted and rebooted, the computer showed the bios logon, windows logo, but then as it tried to get into the desktop, the monitor just went blank. I restarted it again and went to save mode with VGA enabled, it went to desktop for like couple seconds then the same tearing happened and the whole screen went blank. I did check the DVI connection at the back.

I am really at loss. Dont think i touched anything during cleaning and I made sure that i grounded myself before touching the computer. Never overclock the card as it came OC from BFG. Right now writing this in the same computer in safe mode with networking only.

My video card is BFG 6800 GT OC AGP8x btw. Going to give them a call but not till the last resort.

Please help me.

Have you tried removing your video driver and reinstalling it again?

I'm just quessing, but it seems to me that if you get a picture in safe mode, which is using a different set of drivers than your normal startup, then it is possibly driver related.

It definitely sounds like a driver issue or the antivirus took something out it shouldn't? If you get to safe mode and have a screen (and even a POST screen) then I doubt it is your video card. It sounds like the vid driver is trying to run your LCD at too high a "refresh" or resolution and the LCD is going bonkers. Try setting the resolution and refresh in safe mode or as the previous poster suggested uninstalling the old video driver and reinstalling it.

Sorry I havent reply to this thread for awhile since I was checking this thread for about two days but never got a reply :(.
Anyway, update on the situation...

I did removed the video card and put it back again, but same thing happened.
I called the BFG tech at the end of that day, and spoke to him for abit regarding why my computer got messed up. he told me to download new driver from nvidia site, then going to safe mode and uninstall the old driver before installing the new one after reboot. I had to go to safe mode everytime since either the monitor went blank or the screen artifacting (color messing around and tiling all over the screen). So I did as he told me to, uninstall, reboot, went to safe mode again, and install the new driver from nvidia. Then reboot but still the same happened. So he asked me to send the card for RMA. :(.....
Right now the card is on RMA..., but one thing I noticed is that even in safe mode with networking, after about 5 minutes or so, then the screen would get messed up (artifacting all over the place, same symptoms).

Michael: I did get to the desktop ok in safe mode w/ vga, safe mode, or safe mode with networking, but then after about 5 min or so, the screen started to messed up as well. I was just curious...my lcd is 2405 fpw, you think that it goes bonkers? man...that would suxxx too much, but after reading your post, I am thinking to hooking the lcd to my desktop or so and crossing my finger that it's not the lcd, since i am still paying for it, darn :(.

Update: checked the LCD by hooking it up via VGA port with my lappy and it works. Fiuhh... thanks goodness.

Anyway thanks for your response guys, sorry again if i am updating this kinda late.
