I have a VIVO card (my first), but I found out that it is just that. Video-only, I was not expecting this hehe. The system has not been run, I am waiting on my optical drives, audigy, keyboard, NIC, and monitor before booting it up and getting xp pro on it. What I want to know is: how do I go about getting video and audio onto one compressed mpg file on the pc? This would be coming from VHS tapes. Preferably the cheapest way to do this with my VIVO card.

What card do you have ? Most VIVO cards come with recording software that can do this. You can also check out virtualdub which will record in mpeg1
 
Leadtek A250 GF4Ti4600 VIVO, and it does have software. I have not started the PC up (waiting on a couple items), but I would like to get some background info on this. How would I go about getting the audio in? Someone told me Radio Shack has an RCA L&R audio cable to MIC adapter. Is that the best thing to do? Is S-Video also only video?
 
You are right, S-video will only bring the video. To capture the audio, you need to hook up the audio source to the soundcard (line-in is preferred over mic). The software will take care of the rest.
