I'm looking for a hardware device that can capture a VGA output from another PC for creating a software tutorial. Software solutions, unfortunately don't work with our product, we need something that can capture the VGA output from another PC.

I've seen this product: http://reviews.cnet.com/AVerMedia_TVBox...505-9332_7-30683009.html?tag=pdtl-list. Has anyone ever used this device before? We're creating a tutorial for our software and need to capture the stream digitally to edit it.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I'm not aware of any (even remotely affordable) VGA framegrabbers. The easiest thing is to capture from the VGA card's TV-out. Any random $30 PCI TV card will do that for you - and the quality from SVideo should be good enough for screenshots and videograbs for a tutorial.

The link you provided is a TV Tuner for your monitor. It's not a capturing device. Do you have composite/S-Video out on your video card? Output to a VCR or DVD Recorder is your only option since there isn't any capturing device with a DB15/DVI input.

Thats what I thought. I think the easiest solution might be what Peter mentioned above, and just capture from a TV-in connection. I didn't realize that the device I listed didn't have capturing capabilities until afterwards.

There is a tool called Fraps that will grab frames and video from DirectX. Not sure if that helps, but it is software only and downloadable w/free trial.

All solutions won't work (like pre-logon?) No solution from me.

Otherwise consider if the machine is sufficiently fast enough, get the FREE Windows Media Encoder. It will do live capture of video and audio (mic input) and create WMVs.
