i have an ati all in wonder and capturing cable shows take up sooooooo much space, in divx format 1 hours takes up 4 gigs or better. anyone know of software that i can do this and the output file is small (compared to a divx file)?

Unless you want Quicktime, Windows Media, or RealPlayer I think you are going to be stuck with the Divx format. Although you might want to look into adjusting the settings of your Divx files.

it depends on how much bitrates you use...

divx requires way to much processing power and it's not my prefered codec.

here's what I do. when I record shows to watch I record them in MPEG1 at 1.14/Mbit bitrate which is 638,000KB or about 623megs for 1 hour of captures. I then burn them to cdrw bring them to work to watch. It takes abour 7:45 per cd to burn.

the reason I use mepg1 is because it uses less cpu and processing power and has excellent quality for computers that don't have hardware accelerated video.

If I want to record video that I want to keep, I record with MPEG2 at about 3/Mbit, I then use Video Factory or Vegas Video to render them to Windows Media Video which is the best for file size/compression and quality.

Must be your settings, I cap divx with my AIW, using the 3.11a low-motion codec 6000Kb bitrate 75 crispness 1 second keyframes 320X240. That gives me about 20MB/min (depending on action) or 1.2 GB/hour. Run it through VirtualDub and recompress the audio to mp3 128Kb bitrate, and you'll get it down to 600MB/hour with very good quality.
