Video Capture From VCR

I'm looking to convert some old VHS tapes to DVD. Got a smokin' dual core rig and a recent Pinnacle software package, I just need to get the signal in.

Is there a PCI/PCI-E card that has video and audio inputs without breaking the bank? All the capture cards I saw on NewEgg were just video in and you had to run audio thru the sound card, which of course can lead to synching problems.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS, any reason why I should bother trying to find a card that captures audio?

Any other tips would be appreciated, thanks

Get one of the Hauppauge WinTV PVR cards. I have the PVR-150 card and it has an audio line-in. This card also does hardware MPEG-2 encoding. I bought this card for doing VHS to DVD transfers and for watching TV. It works great. It replaced my older WinTV card which served me well for 6 years.

I thought about that but don't need a TV tuner per say. The other thing is that my gf's desktop has a Leadtek TV2000XP that works fine for TV watching and she wants to start capturing video. Unfortunately video compressions/conversion will take forever on her AXP 2.2GHz 1GB system, compared to my dual core Opty 2.5GHz 2GB. So I was hoping for a card that will do this but not duplicate the TV tuner functions.

I will take a looksie at those tho, thanks 🙂

EDIT Ouchies, $67....anything cheaper? 😉
