video capture card

I have noticed a couple free-after-rebate video capture cards (http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10405693&adid=17662&adid=17662, for example). My question is, could it be used as a tv tuner card by hooking up an old vcr to the card and hooking the cable line into the vcr. That way, i could have a tv tuner card with a remote control for virtually nothing. Would this be possible, or might it depend on the video capture card?

Yes they can. Many capture cards even have built-in TV tuners but your link doesn't work so I don't know about the free one.

Fixed the link. This one does not have a tuner- just rca, 3.5mm and s-video i think. So i can watch live tv from this card?

Interesting, you might see if Newegg.com carries it to get more product information.

Every other capture card and graphic card with VIVO lets you just watch from your video-in without recording so I'll _assume_ oyu can with this too.

But it's possible it is the exception and will make you record first before you can watch.

At least its free, so if it doesnt work like i hope, i'll have lost the cost of postage and an envelope for the rebate. Thanks for the help.

I've heard horrible things about buy.com. Also, that card sucks. It's horrible (I owned one a short time ago).

It's not worth the $5 or whatever shipping costs. Plus, you'll be lucky if you actually receive your rebate.
