Are there any consumer cameras which will do more than 640x480 resolution (closer to high def or widescreen?) and can output a mpeg2 signal via firewire (perhaps with Havi)?

You can look into Canon cameras, GL1 or XL1s. I am working on getting an XL1 right now... they are kinda expensive ($4000), but they have the ability to film in high-res, with multiple lense attachments for wide-screen, 35mm look, lighting, etc.

Wow, those are expensive. My brother just got a Panasonic that has a firewire connection for ~ $500. I was curious if there was better consumer technology though.
