Video: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Yeah, really want to see GT-R Evo face off against the ZR1 🙂 Epic showdown! The GT-R evo has a bit of a power deficit, but even the ordinary GT-R puts down insane track times on technical circuits.

Considering they've been timing the GT-R Vspec with sub 7:30 times, I'd say the ZR1 has its work cut out for it.

I think without a proper AWD system, the ZR-1 will not be able to hit sub 7:30's at the ring.

If memory serves, the V-spec has run the 'ring at 7:25. It'll be interesting to see if the ZR1 can approach that. If it does, it will presumably be a much tougher drive for the driver involved.

Yeah, I didn't want to quote the 7:25 number since it was hand timed and the test car might/might not be running on the tires it will be released with, same goes for the engine computer.

True. Several things to think about here :

(1)- Brakes. The ZR-1's brakes are about the best on any production car, ever. I think this was part of the reason for the GT-R's insane track times, as it's brakes are also well above the class of most of it's competitors. Being able to stop later, and with less fade, cuts seconds off of laps even with no changes to other dynamics.

(2)- Power. The GT-R shows astonishing performance from about 0-100, but from there is weaker against the 600+ HP crowd. On a track as technical as the 'Ring, I don't think there will be a whole lot of times where this will come into play.

(3)- Traction. The GT-R will have an easier time applying more power to the ground coming out of holes, as even Z06's have to be damned careful on the throttle out of curves, lest they break traction and start sliding. Sliding/drifting looks cool, but it's definitely *NOT* the fastest way to get round a track.

(4)- Weight/Downforce. If the ZR-1 is fitted with extreme front/rear spoilers, it will alleviate some of the 2WD/traction-related disadvantages. If they don't change it much from the Z06, and combine it with mere lightweight construction technology, I can see it being even more challenging in many respects. A superlight car has a hard time putting a severe amount of torque to the ground in comparison to a vehicle with a heavier stance. It's a double-edged sword, because you're going to have more lateral weight to deal with, but you'll also have more weight on the tires, and that helps them dig in.

Will be very interesting.

I predict :

GT-R Production model : 7:37
ZR-1 Production model : 7:32
GT-R Evo : 7:26

I agree, on the ring the EVO will have the definate advantage. But on the freeway or autobahn it will be another story, the EVO will choke on the ZR-1's fumes and the ZR-1 drives off in the sunset🙂

Should be pretty close even there. 0-100 the EVO will probably have it in spades, so the ZR-1 will have to do a 'ricer flyby' at 100+, lol.

Who knows, there's really no legal roads in the US that the ZR-1 would be able to stretch those beautiful legs on. And tracks seem to favor the GT-R, so .. collector/investment car ftw?

Four wheel drive vs two wheel drive is not really a fair comparison, is it?

This is like watching those Audis in the sports car races at the start back in the day. The other cars were lucky to keep them in sight at launch. 😀

When it rained, fuhgeddaboutit! 😀

So untrue. Women don't give a rat's ass about your Corvette or GTR or Supra. They care more about what the car is as a status symbol or it's looks on a "cuteness" scale rather than if it's fast or powerful. A Ferrari or Porsche garners female attention because it's rare and expensive. A Miata or MR2 Spyder or whatever various "gay" convertible as you people like to call them attracts women because it's "cute". 95% of women couldn't care less if you drove a Mustang GT or 3000GT or Corvette or GTR, those aren't status cars and those aren't "cute" cars. They're more likely to complain about how bumpy and uncomfortable your stupid car is and why it's so uncomfortably loud.

Except vette's are all over the place. I doubt more than 1 in 1000 chicks could tell you the difference between a base vette, a Z06, and a ZR-1.

The Z06 ran the ring in 7:42. With the improvements in the ZR1, sub 7:30 wouldn't exactly shock the world.

So what kind of tires is GM using on the ZR1 or even the Z06 for that matter? Are they putting on the absolute best tires they can to get their times? Cuz if they're not, I want to see what ZR1 and Z06 can really do.

Better tires is the only change. All cars are fitted with Pilot Sport PS2s
60-0mph 14 less feet (114 v 100ft)
1/4 mile in 12.0 though that seems wrong since stock can do high 11s.

Why do people give rat's ass either way?

Just drive what you love to drive and the rest.....just give me a damned M5, I don't care what else their would be on the road, I am going to have some fun anyways...

As a former (and hopefully again, maybe when used examples of the current gen get into my price range) E39 M5 owner, I have to say, it's killer having a 4-door monster. Nothing like having 5 people ride in comfort, style, and with performance rivaling all but the best of the best.

That's not been my experience. The Corvette and Mustang attract women like crazy - they absolutely love them. Those two names carry a HUGE reputation.

If you're in the right (or wrong depending on how you look at it) even an hyundai with a new paint job will make em wet.

See? Exactly...why give 2 rat turds about which car beats which car?? At the end of the day, each person is going to go with the car they like and can afford best.
Down the road when I am feeling financially stable enough to get an M5 I'll get one and I don't think I am going to be bothered much by the fact that some car out there can beat my 0-60 time by 1 second or half a second.....or if a Corvette can do a lap around the track faster by 2 seconds.....

I just find all these car comparisons pointless TBH. ATM most cars come with more HP than %99 of the people can utilize....why worry about performance all that much?

BTW when did you sell your E39 and why?
