About 7 years but I never really got into faster shred stuff until much later on. You shouldn't pay attention to my fretting fingers though. They're all over the place with my pinky going out of control until it's actually being used. Bad technique really but I can't help it.
I kinda noticed that, but it really doesen't look that bad, especially since you can still play very well. 😉

I haven't played for more than 20 mins in like over a year. 🙁 My chops are way off, so it's frustrating and I end up putting it down.

I need something to make me play again...

Crazy as it may sound, the less I play, the better I get. You need some serious breathing time to figure it out mentally, which I think is more important to further developement than burning your fingers out doing theory and repetitive muscle memory training for 5+ hours a day although it does help build fundamentals. But after a certain point it's like a dead end. I don't think I've played any more than 10 mins a day on average during the last 2 years but I think I'm steadily getting better overall.

I call bullsh!t.

You don't know what you're talking about. Practicing for 10-20 minutes a day is a much better way to learn to play than 2-3 hours a couple of times a week. Guitar playing involves training the brain to move your fingers in certain patterns. Repetition over time works best for doing this. This is the best way to practice.

wow, you have amazingly nimble fingers. was that sped up a bit, or was it real time speed?

Real time no less. I could actually play the same thing at a bit more faster tempo but then it's no longer musical 😛

No longer? Hmm...

You are a very competent guitarist, but ugh. I can't stand that progressive/glam/wtfeighties guitar music. Then again, I don't go for much modern music at all, anyway.

Nice, I love guitar solos. Are you in a band?

I play bass, but do mess around on theguitar too. Im no good at guitar though, my solos are certainly not fresh.

I know that. I was referencing the part where he said that's all he did. He has told me different. 😛

See, that's a very limited way of thinking IMHO. "Glam" was more simple pop music and didn't really contain any musical virtuosity. Progressive music will always be around and will always evolve in sound..hence it being progressive. The eighties was an interesting era in that it was accepted to show off musical abilities but came off in a really cheesy way due to the 80's fashion itself. I didn't like it but it did allow some geniuses to hit the stage.

I actually try and fit in musically into various styles and find it the real challenge rather than being able to play a Bach concerto at 10x the speed. I can play and sound pretty natural in blues, classic rock, hard rock, metal, progressive metal, thrash metal etc. you name it although I will be faking jazz at best 😛 It's all about versatility and competence in each style or a fusion of styles that I'm going for. I enjoy all types of music.

Well average is just that, average. Sometimes I might play for a few hours especially when I'm recording something or sometimes I won't even play for weeks, even months. I just figured I played about 10 mins a day on average. Believe me I'd like to play a heck of a lot more but it just isn't possible with my work schedule.

No more of that band bs for me although I think about it from time to time. I just join improv jams on rare occassions.

Well I enjoy what I do and don't give a flying fvck what you think..nor do I even think you have the ability to judge originality although I'm always in a humble state of mind to be pwned by anyone.

Also FYI, I was purposely playing Paul Gilbert licks all over the place in that clip who BTW sounds nothing like Satch or Vai.

Yeah, that's right. He should only play music that YOU like, not what he likes. That's the whole point of music- to entertain YOU.
