anyone remember a post a while back with a drummer who was far too good for his band? I think they were japanese... and they were doing some boring song... and the drummer gets so bored and eventually just goes totally wild.

I've done the same thing, not including the back sticking. I haven't figured out how to do that without dropping the stick 😛

I've done songs that are so boringly simple that I started flailing my arms and making cartoony explosion faces when I'd hit the symbols and shit like that. It's fun to get the crowd going.

The guy is very obviously talented as he's playing while spinning sticks between his fingers, he's also playing up and down with exaggerated strokes past the high hats (sometimes called paint strokes) and stick spinning with the other hand and mixing it up around the set and not missing a beat.

He's obviously bored 😛

korean. google korean crazy drummer or something. an easy find.

LOL. God that guy rocks. I'm no drummer and it doesn't seem like a real complicated song to play but there's no doubt the guy's got talent. Hahaha, frickin sweet.

What concerts did you play in?

I've been drumming on stage literally thousands of times over the course of a decade playing countless events.

These consist of evangelical church services, youth group services for kids 1st-6th grade, middle school, high school, adult services 3-5 times per weekend -many times multiple groups at once, 2 "garage" bands with musicians I grew up learning to play with (one of which went on to play the biggest venue in the state in front of a thousand people). Kids groups are usually 60+, adult groups are usually 200+.

Before I graduated high school, I had played absolutely countless church services, multiple days per week for years and years on end, training with some world class musicians who stopped at the church on tour for their hardware sponsor, featured drummer on two CDs (yeah, good luck finding them online 😛), multiple local openers for national bands on tour in PDX, been asked to play as a guest in several musician-oriented conferences across my state, 3 weddings, a one funeral (i know, right?).

Sir. 🙂

P.S. This doesn't include my time spent in high school choirs which ended in an honor choir made of up students from all over the state, or other instruments I learned to play on the side like the violin, piano, and the motherfuckin recorder, BEEYATCH.

What's really awesome about this clip is that it eventually led me to some awesome Tenacious D clips.

Looks like he might have picked up some moves from DCI or something like that. I think it's pretty amusing but I'd rather get noticed for my playing instead of flash.

Do you think it takes more talent to pull off that flash, or to pull off that flash while playing and not miss a beat even on a simple song?

Of course it takes more talent to actually play while being flashy. I'm just saying I'd rather be noticed for musicality over flash. He's nothing more than a baton twirler who can play a simple song at the same time. I'm also not trying to discount what he's doing...it's entertainment. It's just not my style.

To be fair, there's only so much one can do on a simple song.

He's got a style in-between glowsticking and drumming.
