I drink from the keg of glory, Donna. Bring me the finest muffins and bagels in all the land.

Today, State Farm called.

The "too long didnt read" version is that I have had a dispute with them since September of 04 regarding the matter of over $100k. Hurricane took roof off house and we've been screaming bloody murder they cut a check for contents, which was way under 100k.

In other words: They owe me big money for a covered loss. They havent paid it since 2004. I have been *raises fingers* THIS CLOSE from standing outside my agents office weildling a bullhorn and a sandwich board with the words STATE FARM = BAD FAITH.

Today, a claims adjuster called and said his manager called his manager who called his manager, and they have never done this before and are paying anything I throw at them withinn 40 days. In other words.....

I have 40 days to spend $100,000.

Conditions: I have to have a reciept. Otherwise SF will NOT pay the claim.

Items I can buy: ANYTHING damaged during hurricane that was thrown away and documented.

Examples:

72" BBQ Grill
25 cubic ft smoker
Furniture for a 3BR 2BA house, sofas, loveseats, lawn jockeys, crap like that
Digital Cameras
Computar machines (Network Server, Linux box, print server, laptops, LCD monitor's, whatever)
PDA's
Soda Machine x 2
About 9 freezers or refrigerators
Beds
Clothes - suits, fitted dress shirts, shoes, belts
Lighting, lamps, desks, cd's
software licenses, windows advanced server 2000
Audiophile crap - audio recivers, new speakers, cd players,
AMMO! LOTS AND LOTS OF AMMO!

The problem:

Heres how State Farm works.

You have a computer. You say it costs you $2000. State Farm says it cost you $1000.

Then, State Farm says it's depreciated. By 80%. You get a check for $200.

Go buy a new computer for $2000, and SF gives you $1600.

Imagine this, except replace computer with "HOUSE" and add zeroes accordingly.

I can spend money that I don't have for useless crap that I don't want, or I can pocket the cash. What would you do?

You give all the money to your parents, since you're just a punk who lives with them and whines about it constantly.

Then you get your ass out on the street and live life on your own, leaving your parents the hell alone for once!

I gave all my money to my parents when I was 16.

They invested it all in tech stocks. Lot of good that did me.

If I'm reading this correctly, the house got ripped off your family's house, and youre trying to think of the best way to blow it all away yourself?

Sorry, I'm not understanding your situation perfectly, here.

So, you have 100k to spend to replace damaged goods. I get that part. How does the depreciation factor in? As long as you have the full 100k, why does State Farm's evaluation price matter?

Hopefully this money will require all your time and you won't post another post for 40 days

That's why I thought. Why don't you (OP) spend it on the stuff you lost?

Because you have 20/20 foresight, and can predict the stock market, whereas the rest of humanity can not?

If it's all your money, good audiophile equipment and a lot of albums on vinyl should wipe out half of that.

You "have the 100k" in the respect that State Farm will PAY you $100k, provided that you can document you SPENT $100k.

They're asking you to spend $80,000 you don't have is what it is.

Clear this up for me. Did they never cut you a check at all? And now they cut you a check for $100,000, which is way more than what you had is worth?

Or was the damage done $100,000, and they cut you a check for way less than that?

I'm sure your parents will tell you that what little you could manage at 16 was enough to make up for the years that they've had to put up with you?

Ah, so while your receipts can add up to a max of 100k, state farm will only reimburse you for 20k of that? Shady tactics.

I've read other threads about your situation with the parents. Of course, ATOT believes that parents are infallible, so most of the answers here are invalid. I'd kick your parents a little bit of good-faith money, then keep the rest as cash.

If it's your parents' house, how are you getting the check and the say of what to do with it in the first place anyway?

PAB has a very inflated ego. Pay no attention.

It's been well established in previous threads that PAB's father is a push-over and PAB takes advantage of that every chance he gets.

True, but this one is really stretching it.

I'm still a bit unclear as to how concocting things that were "lost" to get them new, and claiming 100k when you freely admit that it was worth less isn't insurance fraud....

Do you really think PAB is the kind of person to be up front and honest?!
