Vice President Cheney Must go says CIA veterans

This is a letter written by former Intelligence officiers that codemns Cheney for his part in perpetrating lies to justify the invasion of Iraq.

It's totally worth it to sit through the banners.

Salon article

Heres a juicy piece...

Recommendation #1

We recommend that you call an abrupt halt to attempts to prove Vice President Cheney "not guilty." His role has been so transparent that such attempts will only erode further your own credibility. Equally pernicious, from our perspective, is the likelihood that intelligence analysts will conclude that the way to success is to acquiesce in the cooking of their judgments, since those above them will not be held accountable. We strongly recommend that you ask for Cheney's immediate resignation.

If anyone remembers first it was Agnew then Nixon.

First Cheney then Bush. No stopping the unavoidable now. Even with lackeys like Tenet offering themselves up as sacrifices to save Bush.

Aerosmith wrote a song back in the 70's that pretty much sums up the chances of Bush being forced from office. It goes a little something like this:

Dream on... dream on... dream on... dream on

Come back down to Earth someday. It's not that I don't find your posts funny, I'm just beginning to worry about your health. Having all that hate bottled up inside can be good for you.

Unfortunately you are probably right. Bush will most likely be reelected due to lack of strong opposition, and we will have to put up with 4 more years of this insanity. 🙁

Sad times we live in when the ol' "truth, justice..." no longer applies to our elected officials.

That all depends on what your definition of is, is.

I guess I'm wondering when we'll see the inevitable, "This is drivel ... these former CIA vets know nothing ... blah blah blah ... discredit the president ... blah blah blah"

I have to note the article mentioning that often the cover-up takes on a proportion much larger than the original issue. That may indeed be the case here. What seems like a fairly minor falsehood in the SotU address (while fitting a much larger pattern of deception and selectively citing intel) will get totally out of proportion as the administration falls all over themselves trying to revise history. 😛

How can you use the VP as a SCAPEGOAT?? IF the VP is indeed responsible than so is the PRESIDENT. OMFG, do you conservatves NOT see that?

I don't care how sneaky or manipulative Cheney was, IN the end the President of the US IS responsible for the actions of those beneath him. I wouldn't call for the resignation of a president if it was just a peon that had made mistakes, he can't be expected to follow the movements of every minor official in his administration, but the VP?? for Petes sake, if he isn't aware of the actions of the VP and if the VP is indeed acting so contrary to the wishes of the president and got AWAY with it, than the President is JUST as responsible as the VP.

Bush Jr CANNOT and SHOULD NOT get reelected.

Nothing that clinton did is ANYWHERE NEAR as HEINOUS as what this administration has done.

IF you are going to go to war, err on the side of CAUTION NOT OF AGGRESSION. Unfortunately this administration to choose to ignore the evidence in order to go to war. they should be held responsible.

Good one! Oh wait that is the same old tired drivel the bushies continually bring up to support their man. I just heard about a study on the radio today that said in nearly 60% of relationships there is infidelity, if we had to put every one of them on the stand about their marrital affairs (or extra marital as the case may be) our justice system would be a back logged one indeed. Never mind illegal and immoral wars fought for self glorification, we have real things we should be worrying about!

I wonder how many tens/hundreds of thousands have been saved because Bush removed Saddam from power.

...or don't they count when it comes to your petty politics.

PETTY POLITICS??

For a party that spent 2 yrs condemning a president for lying about having sex with an intern. You talk about PETTY POLITICS??

OMFG you are sick.

So you are willing to trust somone solely based on the fast that he is a former member of the CIA. How do we even know what his job in the CIA was...there are many jobs at the CIA. What is the person was an annonymous former NYT journalist who was in fact Jayson Blair. I dont understand how we can not trust the president but we can trust some annonymous CIA person. I bet almost all former Presidents have discredited their sucessor's administration...does that make them right?

I respect this former CIA vets opinion but only as another citizen of the United States.

Did you even read the article? If so you would have noticed that they are NOT anonymous whatsoever. In fact, here are their names: Ray Close, Princeton, NJ; David MacMichael, Linden, VA; Raymond McGovern, Arlington, VA .

Why don't you pay attention Brie? And no I don't simply take one source's word for it, simply look around and you'll see a pattern evolving. Opinions from across the board. Take them all into consideration - even opposing viewpoints. This forum ends up discussing little pieces of the puzzle individually, however if you watch, you'll see there's more to it than just this one story.

Bush Jr CANNOT and SHOULD NOT get reelected.
---------------------------------
There isn't the slightest chance of that happening, ever, as long as Clinton's alive.

Yes I am paying attention. What I am considering is that we shouldn?t take 3 former CIA opinions as gospel no matter what we want to believe. The fact that they are CIA means diddly squat to me. Yes I am going to form my own options but I am going to take into account that these 3 are extremely biased to begin with...just like Bush and Co. The pattern that is evolving is that everyone is grasping at straws and no one really knows the truth. Yes there are more than one story but they are still just pieces.

Clinton's BJ didn't get 120 US soldiers killed.

But, but, but...

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to bring Clinton up in this discussion. Clinton's misdeeds do not make Bush's any better, let's not forget that. You seem to be bashing the latest bastion of liberalism in an attempt to stifle criticism against a specific conservative (namely, Curious George Jr.) One doesn't have anything to do with the other.

At least we have a better idea about what Cheney was doing at his undisclosed locations . . .

Personally, think many people still believe Bush is an intellectual lightweight. It's believable that Cheney was running a shadow op to produce a "Clear and Present Danger" from Iraq. From a superficial standpoint there are many reasons to think Iraq could pose a threat and Bush is renowned for his trust in the people around him.

Bush could pull a Spiro "hardly" Agnew you . . . and I bet he would still retain popular support in America.

Worry about your own health - your mental health. You must be insane. You support Bush and Co.

"Having all that hate bottled up inside can be good for you."

It is good for me, thanks.

The CIA and other intelligence agency officers involved in this article raising a stink that the President "didn't listen to them" can go f*ck themselves. They don't make the policy, the President does. It's the President's job to take the advice he gets and make the ultimate decision, and for that he bears the ultimate responsibility. They simply don't like that he didn't listen to their opinion on the matter and decided on a different policy than what they preferred. I don't even particularly care for Bush and can't stand "intelligence professionals" who are politicizing the intelligence process.

Did you read the article? That's not a quote from the letter, nor is it a focus of their concerns. They are upset about the Bush administration misrepresenting intelligence reports and about the administration's growing cover-up. They are concerned that this has damaged Bush's credibility and the credibility of the intelligence community.
