Interesting. Only bummer I have right now is the my vibrant doesn't seem to get 3g on AT&T. Might just be my towers, might be my phone. Dunno. *pout*

JI6 gps locks super fast now, and doesn't drop gps....BUT...it's hardly a "fix"...still pretty inaccurate, nothing better (I think even worse) than previous "fixes" gps accuracy...

It probably locks faster because it's hitting AGPS first and then locking the first 2 birds it finds. Of course the accuracy is gonna suck.

All Samsung phones need a mass boycott until this crap is fixed. It should never have been released with such a flaw, never mind on so many carriers.

no

I've been running JI6 for a while now and it sometimes helps. Still can't use navigation or anything that relies on GPS while moving.

I've got a couple calls in with different people at Tmo. My battle should be over within a week

Looks like the Vibrant 3G frequencies are 1700/2100 and AT&T's 3G frequencies are 850/1900.

For my situation, I bought an AT&T Samsung Rugby 2, unlocked it, and popped in a T-mo SIM card and all I'm getting is Edge.

The point of my comment was that when the unlock came out for it, many people were reporting 3g on AT&T with it.

Don't worry, some people jump into thread thinking they really know what they're talking about.
The Vibrant happenned to also have the 1900mhz 3G band.

Right. I thought the Vibrant would work on ATT's 3G but not vice versa.

But then again, I didn't look into it at all.

Either way...JI6 is not a cure all for anything. Its just a tweak.

Currently running Bionix 1.6 with Voodoo lag fix and JAC's kernel. Quadrant and Linpack scores are lower than stock with Kingklick's kernel and Ryanza's lag fix. The interface is a bit smoother and the tweaks are nice but no real improvements.

But then again...people like to just post shit they read about as fact. Remember...the last Samsung update gave the Vibrant Froyo.

Well, I'm basing my statement on this:

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_vibrant-3416.php

According to that information, the 1900 frequency is only on the 2G network.

Some people actually do a little research. If that information is incorrect, well, what're ya gonna do...

Just got my Vibrant from Craigslist for $250 and I am using AT&T 3G now.

Well, there you go. Maybe its a case by case issue, like the GPS problem. A lot of people reported problems with GPS on their SGS. I haven't had any problems, GPS included, with my Captivate.

When I recently bought my Rugby 2 from AT&T and popped in the T-mo SIM all I got was Edge. When I put in my AT&T SIM I get 3G.

AT&T has both 1900 and 850 coverage in some places, just 850 in others. Obviously if your area doesn't have 3g on 1900, the Vibrant won't help you.

JI6's GPS works fine for me.

what all have you tried doing with it besides just acquiring birds?

I can't use: Tasker, navigation, car home (has built in speedo and location)...basically anything that requires a lock while moving.

Gmaps works fine once in a while. Usually right after I flash. After a couple days, its worthless too

I don't know, all I had to do is do a search on Google "Do the Vibrant have att 3g ??" and I get quite few threads talking about it having ATT 3G 1900mhz band.

As someone already mentioned.
ATT 3G bands are 850mhz and 1900mhz.
However the 850mhz are a more usuable than the 1900mhz as ATT are moving toward to 850mhz for their 3G service.
So of course if you are in an area where ATT are using the 850mhz for 3G, then the Vibrant is not going to do you any good.

Well, I did just link to a MyTracks map tracking me driving from home to my work....

:shrug;

It could be. I've had a working GPS since leaked JI2, though.

freaking A

I've gone rounds with Tmo's online chat, over the phone tech support and my local Tmo office where I activated both my lines and bought my Vibrant. After convincing them that I'm not a complete n00b, they basically told me to root my phone and try some of the experimental stuff out there.

I wonder why they dont just use what they are using with the Epic?

I use mine for driving navi all the time and it works just fine and its accurate. Probably 5 second lock. Sometimes it goes on the fritz but it usually fixes itself.
