I'm currently looking at building a PC for my grandparents in a Shuttle SV24 case. The PC will probably be in their living room or something, so it needs to be quiet. Therefore, I am thinking about going with one of the C3 procs from VIA. They used it in Anand's review, and it seems like others have used it too. My question is: does the thing come with the little passive heatsink like they used in the Anand review? Also, know a good place to get one? I found one here but wanted to know if there was a better place to get one. Thanks.

BTW, do any of you know whether I will still be able to use the add-in PCI card if I go with the passive C3 heatsink?

I don't see why you couldn't use the add-on PCI, but I would still go with an ultra-quiet active H/S. You can find passives everywhere. Just have to look. :p

SV-24: cute - yes, small - yes, value - yes, quiet - no!! The noise complaint centers around the fan in the power supply. You might want to visit the SV-24 thread at SilentPC Otherwise, Silicon Acoustics has the C3's (thx to TheOverVolter).

How loud is it? It's gotta be quieter than a standard PC. The noise isnt so big as a problem as the size is. They really don't have any room for a full sized case.

Just do a quickie search at SilentPC for "SV-24". There are a couple of dozen comments from the SV-24 wranglers, some with how-to's.

Ok.. did that and found some stuff. No one there really seems to say how loud it is in DbA, and it seems that there are a few different models of the SV24 out. I think I'll take my chances with getting it and if its too loud then i'll just go about making it quieter :)
