I have a client that is having me reinstall the XP O/S from scratch on his old computer which I have applied all of the Microsoft service packages to.

The version 5 of Roxio is what came with this computer when it was originally purchased.

I do have the original version 5 CD.

My question is, is this OLD version of Roxio going to work reliabily on a version of XP that has been updated with all of the M/S patches including IE8 and all these many years that the version 5 of Roxio was originally written and offered with this machine ?

Thanks.

Versions 4 & 5 had many issues with XP ... V6 & later is stable with XP .. but Nero 6.6 is a better program.
And there are other programs, some free, that are easy to use. Such as IMGBURN (free) or UltraISO (pay)
POWERISO (pay) .. personally I think the latest releases from Roxio and Nero are very bloated.

Roxio XP was very good with version 9. Version 10 is good with XP. Both work with Win 7. Both Roxio and Nero are highly bloated.

You should be able to upgrade the Roxio ECDC to version 5.3.5 & it should do just fine. I still use portions of ECDC such as the erasing & formatting utilities. Unless this person has some special need that has been added from their original hardware purchase, then I wouldnt try to upgrade anything. NERO 6 with the latest upgrades is just absolutely great! ROXIO is a bit more intuitive to use however & might thus be preferred.

Register or use his Roxio account (if he has one) to obtain the latest patches/updates. Should be fine.

It is my understanding from other forums that if he going to utilize IE version 8 then the Roxio version 5 will NOT work even if it is updated to the latest patches that are available for VERSION 5, is that not correct ?

Thanks.

I have no knowledge of an incompatibility with IE8.
