VIA RAID controller on P4P800-D

Yeah, I've probably alienated anyone who can help me with my sig, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I started having problems when I flashed 1.008 BIOS. My HD performance went down considerably. I've never gotten a floppy drive to boot on this system, it might be part of the same problem. So I bought a Raptor figuring I could work around, but I still have the same issue. When I enable the RAID controller in control panel I have problems with getting my LAN to boot. It will go eventually, but it takes a minute or two. It also won't let the probe work until the 3Com activates. I really started having some issues when I installed the Audigy2, but when I disable the VIA onboard it's lightning fast. Problem is I have a data drive, and when I try to connect to the primary IDE it won't when I install XP to the Raptor, only works when I install it on the IDE RAID channel.I've tried updating everything (BIOS 1.009.003 Beta) and it doesn't help. I've dropped down to no o/c, so I don't see that as a prob. I tried contacting Asus about my problems (hence the sig). The rest of my rig is: Antec True 480, 2 LG electronic opticals on Sec. IDE, 9700 AIW, SBC ADSL, modem, 2.4C CPU, PC3500 HyperX; I think that's everthing possibly relevent.

I'm with you on the hating Asus... I had a P4C800 Deluxe for a couple months, and had hell with just about every part of it. Eventually I just returned it for an Abit IC7-G... which cost like 20 or 30 dollars less.

So, if you can, return that bad boy. Otherwise... I don't know what to tell ya. These asus boards are really hit and miss.

i have had very poor performance on my via raid controller too. I tried updating to 1009.3 and then I couldnt even see my raid-0 drives, so i went back to 1008. I am just waiting until they fix it with some future bios version.. til then, i get about half the speed in benchmarks of what I should. See my sig for my comp specs.

i should also note that I have had very weird problems on audigy2.. perhaps we can work on this together cuz I have a audigy2 sitting on my table now, not able to use it. When I put that puppy in, i got all SORTS of extremely weird errors on POST, and right after POST. i can't even begin to describe them, but let's just say I actually began the RMA process on my board until I somehow managed to fix it (after taking OUT the audigy2)....

i'm using a SB Live in it now and that runs dandy. But i'd like to make use of my `spensive audigy2 🙂
