VIA P4X400 and DDR400

I am assembling a system around the Soltek SL-85ERV Mainboard. Ideally I would like to use DDR400. I have read in Probably all of the reviews I have seen that, DDR400 is unstable on the new chipsets including the VIA P4X400 this board uses. My question is. Is it possible to underclock the DDR400 to DDR333 stability in hopes that the stability issues will be resolved in the future through updates; Or am I dreaming and should I just use the DDR333.

You can clock it at any mem clock supported by the chipset, in the case of the P4X400 you could easily choose the run the memory bus at speeds of DDR200/266/DDR33/DDR400 as you choose.
You won't have any problems at all running it at 166/333MHz DDR.
And given the seriously questionable stability of 400MHz DDR on the latest SiS/VIA chipsets that's probably a wise choice.

Then what's the point of spending the extra money on DDR400?

Imho, get a good i845G or SiS648 board and run DDR333. The "extra" performance you might gain with DDR400 would definitely not be worth the headaches.
