via only memory?

My guess is that this is a VC133 256MB stick of VCM-SDRAM based on the chipset support list. Do you want it? Well, I wouldn't replace my current memory with VCM-SDRAM, but if you are buying a new system, it's worth considering. Virtual Channel Memory essentially adds a small cache to SDRAM. VC133 SDRAM will result in up to a 10% speed-up in an ideal situation over comparable PC133 memory, but it's more like 3-4% in real life.

To be honest, I didn't notice the price. It must be VC133 SDRAM though - look at the chipset support list. It's an exact match to those that support VCM memory.

That is syncmax ram, here is the compability chart
It is a high density module that only the newer via chipsets can recognize, bx boards will only see 128 on 256 modules. It is sold under various names such as zeus component and several house brands. It is not crap like some people are claiming, it works fine on compatible boards, most with problems have never read the compatibility chart.

No, I'm wrong and I stand corrected.

It's what Tonec said. I can't get through their webpage to read more (my ie5 Unix browser seems to crash on their Flash detection), but I've learned a new thing.

I believe the problem stems from the fact that older chipsets do not have enough address/data lines going to each memory bank, so the chipset cannot 'see' half of the high density modules. I don't know if this Syncmax stuff is crap or not, but the chipset compatibility has nothing to do with that.

That is not VCM-SDRAM. If it was then the AMD 751 Irongate chipset wouldn't be listed because VCM-SDRAM is Via chipset ONLY. 🙂
