VIA Officially Launches KT333 Chipset.

<< I posted it within 30 secs of rcv'ing the email from VIA >>

Do you ever sprain your fingers in acts like that? 🙂

KT333 is insignificant next to the power of a 1.6A OCed to 2.4 with an 845D or cheap SiS chipset.

This is a non-event as far as I'm concerned. The Athlon simply can't use the additional bandwidth. The SiS implentation of DDR333 pretty much proves that. Unless VIA includes a vastly improved Northbridge like they did with the KT266A (which they didn't), the improvement is miniscule. The KT400 will have support for DDR333, DDR400, and AGP 8X (hopefully more of an improvement than 2X-4X). It won't go into production until the end of March at the earliest though. Looks to me like the only real upgrade options in the coming months will be faster Northwoods, Tbreds, and the GF4.

Here's the thing. The Athlon can benefit from the bandwith if you actually unlock the CPU and run the higer FSB's syncronus with the memory, the bandwith usage is much better. Most of these chipsets just run asyncronusly since AMD is keeping the Athlon's @ 266mhz FSB. I just setup a Tbird on a XP333-R and it loves running @ 188mhz FSB. 🙂
