I have a computer with VIA chipset motherboard (VIA GARA?) with a AMD K6-3D 400MHz (2.2v)
the motherboard have build-in-video/sound/nic/modem I have just installed Windows XP on this machine
Windows XP dectects all the hardwares except and got drivers for the video/sound/nic but not the modem
can someone help me out where i can find the modem driver?
i don't even know which manufacture make the motherboard but all i know is that it have VIA chipset.

btw: Windows XP dectect it as a "PCI Simple Communications Controller"

I have tried to update it from Windows Update and have no luck with the driver.

If you can get the BIOS id string (should be able to see it when you boot) and its an AWARD bios then you can try and cross reference it on this site.

That site has a few other bios types also.

If they don't have it, then post the info and I am sure someone might be able to help you find it.

Also have you tried using generic modem drivers?

yeah i tried using generic modem drivers and it doesn't work.

when i open up the computer case i only see VIA VAGAR on the chipset i think. so i don't think it's a MVP3 chipset.

I just checked the system information on windows xp, i believe i have the MVP4 chipset. but i still have no clue on which company makes the motherboard.

When the machine first posts what is the bios id string? Manufacturer information is in it, the MVP4 doesn't specifically support a modem, so the modem is an add-on that you will need to get from the manufacturer. Also there is an FCC number on the motherboard. It can be used to track down manufacturers also.

I just found the chipset information for my motherboard but still can't find drivers for my modem

PC100 VIAgra

The PC100 VIAgra chipset is a relabeled VIA MVP4 100Mhz (VT8501/VT82C596B) chipset. You can use VIA Busmastering IDE drivers.
