Will the Via KT266 chipset use the same southbridge as the via kt133A if so will it have the same problem with the soundblaster live cards?

Yes, the KT266 uses the 686B Southbridge, the same as on the KT133A boards. I haven't heard of any conflicts with the Live! and the KT266 Northbridge though.

Apparantly the latest Via 4 in 1 drivers (4.31) address this ongoing problem anyway....cant confirm this though

huh? I thought that the new ddr chipset for via used a totally different north and southbrigde connected to the v-link or whatever it's called. I thought you knew that nfs? or am I missing something?

No, it uses the VT8233 V-link compatible southbridge, no SB Live! issues.

Sorry, I was confused there for a bit ;) It uses the V-Link southbridge, but it is VERY VERY VERY closely related to the 686B:p

This is from Anand's KT266 review:

"The South Bridge is virtually identical to the 686B from VIA with the exception that it now contains the PCI bus interface, an integrated 10/100 Ethernet controller and supports up to 6 USB ports."

My mind must have gotten a bit rusty.;)

Well, feature wise, they're identical, just that it was designed to run V-link. Its easy to get confused, I do that all the time.

The more important question is: When are some decent boards based on this gonna come out? And does anyone know what the final verdict is on the MSI kt266 board? Is it worth getting now that it has been out for a while or is it still buggy and problematic?

I believe a revision is in progress, we'll see a good K7T266 Pro pretty soon.

<< NF...why would it have any compatibility issues with the northbridge? >>

I meant the Northbridge coupled with the southbridge. The KT133A and 686B together seem to have problems with the Live! I haven't heard of problems with the AMD760/686B and Live!.
