Well I have a K8T800 chipset board and love it, BUT my next board WILL be a 250Gb. Overclocks better and I want my ethernet catd off the pci Bus.

nForce3 250Gb.
Faster Gigabit, hardware firewall, likely faster SATA as well, insane RAID options, more reliable PCI/AGP lock, /plus/ it's generally faster at games (usually OpenGL ones); this is doubly true if you're using an nVidia card with it.

Just a quick related question...

I've been looking to get a Nforce3 250 + Athlon64 3000.

The MSI K8N Neo Platinum lists this for CPU's:
Supported CPU: Socket 754 AMD Athlon64 Processors(Supports 3400+ or up)

Is this true, or just a typo by MSI? What's so bad about the 3000 that MSI won't support it?

The 3400+ just means the maximum speed the board currently supports. That's how MB manufacturers have always listed that spec.

I'm skipping Socket 754 and moving right along to Socket 939 later this year. And my chipset will NF3-250Gb Ultra. And the cpu is likely to be a 3500+.

tough call just cause I've had great luck in the past
but right now, there are more NF3 250 boards out, than K8T800 Pro boards. so I'd go with something like the K8N Neo platinum.
