I went looking for the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 last night, and could not find one in Houston. Defeated, I purchased the Mad Dog Entertainer 7.1...

Guess what? Same chip as the M-Audio Revolution! :D

I pulled off the Mad Dog sticker, and found an Envy 24 HT chip. For info on this bad boy, go to Via.com.

For $29.99 AR this is a smoking hot deal.

Nice find. I paid $100 for the Revo.

They have the drivers for this online?

Besides having no DS3D hardware support, are there any other limitations to this card? Does it have coax/optical digital out that works?

The controller chip isn't everything you know. The DACs on the card play a HUGE part in the quality of the sound coming out of the card. I wouldn't buy this until seeing how its drivers and dacs compare to the revo.

This must be a brand-new offering because I can't find any info about it anywhere other than crapusa's site... the mad dog home page doesn't even show it yet.

Can you fill us in on what inputs and outputs are on the card (both on the back plate and internally). Also, how are the drivers? I'm betting there's no ASIO at this price point, but who knows?

Thanks!

I believe it has 2. Mine came with the cable.

How are the drivers? Any ASIO support? If it uses the Via reference drivers there should be ASIO support.

If you wait long enough - you might miss out on the deal. This one is good for 5 days, so today may be the last day.

It is pretty low price, and if you don't like it, you can just return it, minus the restock fee.

Huh? Go to www.compusa.com, computer upgrades link, sound cards link and it shows on the first page:

Yeah I know... I said I couldn't find it anywhere other than crapusa's site. :p

Devilsadvocate, since you have the card in your possession, can you please tell us what input/output options are on the card? Have you installed it yet? How are the drivers?

Thanks

I got this card a few days ago, it replaced an Audigy2 in my gaming system. The Audigy2's drivers had driven me crazy, the card is good, the drivers are horrible. As for the Mad Dog, it is an awesome card. I have a Revo 7.1 in another machine and had actually gone to buy another only to find out they didn't carry them any more. I can't tell you about the digital output, as I have this going into the analog 5.1 inputs of a Kenwood receiver and outputting to a JBL 5.1 speaker system. To compare this to the Audigy2 (same system, same receiver and speakers) is pretty easy. For music the Mad Dog KILLS the Audigy2 - period, no comparison. Gaming is a mixed bag. For Unreal Tournament, the Mad Dog sounds better. For UT 2K3, there is nothing that gives the realistic spatial sounds (someone behind you) like the Audigy2. That being said, I DO hear sounds on the Mad Dog that were not there with the Audigy2, and I can run the EAX3 sound option with the Mad Dog - this is what got the Revo put in my business machine, the drivers were horrible for gaming. Apparently VIA (as Mad Dog doesn't even try to hide the fact these are VIA drivers) got the picture and addressed the gaming issues. Overall which card would I prefer to run... the Mad Dog. If Creative could make decent drivers the Audigy2's gaming would get it back in my machine, but then pigs would be able to fly as well. Since they can't, the Mad Dog is a STEAL at $59.95 and just plain stupid at $29.95.

The terms of the rebate seem a bit more stringent. You have to register the product to get a code in the email. You then enter the code on the rebate form.. worst case, $60 buck for the card, still a good deal ?

cobysdad: not to knock the mad dog card or nothing but what was the problem with the audigy2 drivers? I have an audigy2 and installed their latest drivers and they work flawlessly with all my games and winxp. Not a single problem. I'm wondering if the mad dog audio card has the 24bit/192khz DACs and the 100+db SNR.

If they are indeed VIA dacs, the card should be no different from the $27 Chaintech card on Newegg.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a rig following my recent financial fiasco. Sorry, but I will not be able to test it :(
