VIA Drivers Update Installation

In order to update the VIA Drivers on Win '98 , is it necesarry to uninstall the previous version first ( from the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs ) , or can one just install the new version on top of the old one ?
 
VIA used to come right out and tell you to uninstall before installing new drivers, but I haven't seen a reference to that in a while. I just install over the pre-exsisting installation.
