Great processor for computers in cars to run mp3's, dvd's, gps, etc. OR other tasks that don't need a processor that generates near nuclear heat.

Is it fast enough to decode mp3, dvd, gps?

Got a wife, daughter... something who chats, does word apps and surfs the inet... they wont know the difference at all so heck.. buy 2 of em :D.

Yup, the very computer I had to work on for TWELVE hours. Came from Fry's... for $200. What a WASTE of $200. That computer was literally useless. It had to be replaced. It could not effectively run a chat client, instant messaging software, ANYTHING. Plus factor in the $100 cost of Windows XP. It would literally take it 5-10 minutes to start up MS word (I'm guessing, I didn't install office, that would have easily taken another 4-6 hours)

Don't the sell that system with linux?

yeh they're solid for decoding movies and music, but if you're going down the videogaming route, forget it.

Decoding movies is simply ripping the VOB files off the disk. Not really processor intensive. Now, ENcoding a DVD to DivX is going to take a heck of a more powerful processor than a C3 . . . unless you like horribly out of sync audio and waiting over a week for one movie.

This thing seriously could not plays MP3s without skipping. It was freakin ridiculous. Maybe WMP9 was too much bloat for it?

you could run mp3s with a 166mhz processor, i know cuz i did long ago. dvd? 400mhz did that for me... gps doesn't require much mhz.

i just doubt its faster then a underclocked tually or p4 celly.. its too bad they dont' sell centrinos for desktops..that would slaughter the c3.

Can the C3 be used in place of a K62-400? I've got a Compaq laptop with a K62 in it that runs hotter than heck. I'd like to put a processor in it that runs cool. It's got a socket 7 board in and runs 98SE.

To my knowledge, the C3 uses Socket 370

or no socket at all :)
which is so cool because its the only cpu that gives you the pleasure of soldering the pins yourself :D
