via bus driver missing, win XP

I have an Abit KT7A and when I installed the 4 in 1 driver (i think its the latest, 4in1438) the system cant find the driver for the Via Bus IDE. When I startup windows, the icon in the tray will come up and tell me to install new hardware. I tried putting in the cd, even though its got older 4in1, and finding the driver on it, but it wont work. What's going on?

No,

<< So do I need to install any of these VIA IDE Bus Master Drivers?

Both the VIA IDE Bus Master Filter Driver and the VIA IDE Bus Master Miniport driver are included in the VIA 4in1 service pack. Please note that in the 4in1 drivers, the IDE Filter Driver is referred to as the ATAPI Vendor Support Driver. They will only install by default on particular Microsoft Operating systems, however, as follows:

Don't install the 4 in 1's with xp. The default xp drivers should work fine. I installed the 4in1's thinking I'd get a performance boost. What happened was my hard drive would lock up and tie up 100% system resources all the time. I also got viadsk errors all the time and some stupid message about my cdrom having bad sectors. Formatted and didn't install them the second time around and it works great.

I say it the other way, I had awful performance with XP with the default drivers, the new 4 in 1s bring it to normal levels.

Whatever works for you is the best.

Another option you can try is pointing to Windows Directory,I installed the latest VIA 4 in 1 dirvers(4.38a which are in exe. format) on my old Win98 PC lastnight, after install & reboot it was asking for location etc,I just pointed it to Windows directory and it found all the files it needed.
