That error is not specific to Via chipsets or winXP... it happens also on other chipsets and can be reproduced on win2k machines...

I just installed my W2K on my machine with the version previous to this with latest Nvida drivers and it would totally freeze my system on W2K!! I resorted back to way older drivers on both and was ok. I'm staying away from VIA for a long time....

I have a similar rig like yours, except I have a T-Bird 700 w/ Asus A7V, GeForce 2 GTS...

Before when I was running win2k, it would freeze randomly... and for the longest time I thought it was the video drivers...

But turned out it was the on-board ata-100 controller... after I flash the BIOS, the problem went away for good... I havent got a freeze-up ever since...

Might be worth a try for you... But I dont know the details of your problem so cant say for sure...

I've never had that problem with any of nVidia's drivers on my KT133a chipset and I'm still using the 435s. Make sure you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard.

I'm defintley sure it's not the BIOS or anthing like that :( unless a BIOS is needed to use the lastest drivers I really have no need to get the latest BIOS for it would only let me use Athlon XP's. Rather use XP on a DDR board then a SDRAM board.

But... thanks for the info. and will keep it in mind for my future upgrade.
