The List.

Things I like:

Top 4 is good. Dre should be 5.
Jay-Z was high, which I think he deserves. His non-MTV stuff is great.

Things that I didn't like:

Ja-Rule is on the list? WTF
Arrested Development should be higher as well as Tribe.
OutKast should be in Top 10.
P Diddy is way too high
Eminem is a little high.
Snoop should be a little higher.
Lil Kim, Eve, and Nelly should not be on the list.

Yeah, there's no way I'd pick Puff Daddy's sampling ability over Sugarhill Gang's originality.

EVE? Lil Kim? NELLY?! Ja Rule? The list is ok if those named ones wouldn't be on the list. Now how does EVE deserve to be on that list?!

Not an especially big rap fan.... but I have to agree with 1 & 2. When I saw that it was coming on, I said "Public Enemy and Run DMC better be in the top 3, or I'm turning it off".... and low and behold, VH1 made some semblance of sense.

As far as the 'newer' artists prevailing... that's not surprising. They showed definite bias in some of the other "top 50" shows. But I'm glad to see people like Grandmaster Flash and the Sugarhill game noticed.

good strong list and without thinking about it, i agree with who is on the list. Not the order, but everyone on the list contributed to hip hop.

Sugar Hill Gang's greatest hit used a sample.
Will Smith did alot for rap. Just because he isn't rhyming about cars, hoes, cash and brag about other things, doesn't mean he isn't a rapper.
Hammer opened the door to dancing, playing hip hop in the clubs. He opened the door to commerical hip hop.

I think you saw the show and hear what they say, you might agree, instead of just reading the list.

Ja Rule, Nelly, and Eve have to go. Missy should be much lower (above Tribe and Gang Starr? I think not). Slick Rick needs to be on the list. Dilated Peoples too.

There are 50 different Hip Hop Artists? Hell I thought it was the same twenty making all that noise, many of them with "Ice" in their names.
