VGA to DVI connector to hook up an analog signal to an LCD's DVI port

Can I use a VGA to DVI connector to hook up a computer having only VGA out, to the DVI input of an LCD monitor?

(The VGA input on the LCD is occupied by another computer).

Would this work?
And if it does, is there any risk of damaging the LCD by hooking up an analog signal to a connector meant for digital?

your monitor is only meant to operate one signal at a time, you might want to consult the manual on your monitor.

You can get a converter for DVI to vga because vga in part of the DVI signal, but I don't think there's any way to get DVI from vga.

Something you might want to consider is getting a kmv switch and just hooking up the monitor switching part. Hook up two systems as inputs and the monitor to the output. You can switch between the two inputs by hitting a switch or button on the kmv switch.

I think I read it closely.

You cannot connect a vga out to a dvi in.

She wants to have 2 things connected to her monitor.

They can't be on at the same time.

A kmv switch will allow her to have 2 things connected via vga (the connections she has) and she will be able to switch between the two.

What didn't I get / what did I say that was wrong?

Because you should put it in the correct forum to begin with. That's why there are different categories.

If everyone posted a thread and then when they didn't get a response in half an hour made a new thread, the forum would be totally full of reposts on topics and people would be posting the same solutions to multiple threads from the same person like I would have done if I hadn't noticed this was the exact same problem you posted here.

Even before you post your first thread, you should do a search to see if someone has had a similar issue in the past and read to see if the solution is already posted. If you can't find it in a search, then create a single thread in the category that you think best fits it.

This thread should have gone into the video forum as it is clearly a video issue. Don't create a third thread now though...

If everyone wanted to get a response as soon as possible about anything, they'd just post in off topic and we'd get rid of all the other categories. The categories are here for a reason.

Following this, you asked "And why not??"

So I gave you a list of reasons why making more than 1 thread on a single topic is frowned upon.

I wasn't complaining about posting on more than one thread on a single topic, just explaining that this is one of the reasons posting more than one thread makes things inefficient in the forum.

I know this is not my forum. If it was, I'd probably ban you.
