VGA Silencer fan is dead, what can I do? Found out how.

Just got this cooler for my Radeon 9800 PRO and fan is burned. I can smell it. How did it burn? I don't know. I don't want to RMA it to SVC b/c it paid only $14 for it shipped and don't want to pay more to send it back.
Is there a fan replacement that I can buy? Any suggestion as to use another type of fan to get it to work as everything else is still new. I wonder if they just sell a replacement fan? I think they should as the fan won't last forever.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I put back the Vantec Iceberg copper heatsink/fan back on. I also just got a temp sensor front panel. It's registering that the core of the Radeon 9800 is around 51C idle, is this normal temp for the core? It seems hot. I know that the CPU is around 33C idle. I did not think that the core would be this hot. Since copper absorb heat faster and slower to dissipate, I wonder if by putting the probe on the heatsink it would register being hotter than the actual core? My CPU heatsink being bigger, I wonder if the probe would report the CPU is cooler than actual temp.

EDIT:
This is what I found on how.

man, i'm having trouble with my 9500pro fan too.. i think it's burning out.. sounds like it struggles when i boot up my computer, and yesterday i smelled something burning. my computer has been running really slowly, and i think it MIGHT have to do with the card. it does feel really hot too.

i've got no experience in dealing with gpu cooling.. any advice/wisdom would be greatly appreciated..

Sounds like you got a unit with a bad fan. Give them a call and explain the situation. Maybe they'll ship you a new one? I remember I had an old celeron fan for 300A that went bad and the site sent me a replacement free of charge. It was within state (FL) though. If they will not do that maybe if you offer to buy the RamSinks with shipping they'll throw in a replacement fan? Hope it works out. Good luck. 🙂

If you haven't called/emailed SVC yet, do it and see what they tell you. I don't know how warranty issues are handled in the US, but in Germany the dealer has to pay the return postage and quite often, if it's about something cheap like the silencer they just send you a new one and that's it.
Also if you bought the silencer to "silence" your 9800 putting a 60 mm fan on top of it won't make your system any quieter than it was with the stock cooler.

Hey guys,
I found this thread and it seems good.
What do you guys think?
Thanks.
I think putting on a 4000 rpm noisy fan defeats the purpose of using a Silencer.

I can see what you guys are talking about. However, if the fan dies, why not. Also, I can always connect it to my fan controller and control the noise. The key here is to get the fan running and noise is not an issue if you got a fan controller.
Thanks.

Did you call SVC and see what they will do? If it were me, I'd just buy another one. Its not like its a ton of $$.
