VGA Cooling

Good morning folks.

I currently have an 8800GTS 640mb. It's running a bit hot (70degrees constant, whether idle or under load).

I'd like to buy a cooling solution for it, but I'm also looking at upgrading my card in the next few months. Which cooler would be best? Will it be useable on say 9800GX2? 4870?

Thanks in advance!

The G80 8800GTS is one hot mofo. I say you go with something like the new Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo with the two fans already designed into the cooler. Details at arcticcooling.com

Aye. I had a couple of crashes last night so thought I'd check temps. Was a bit shocked when I realised how hot it was. Turned fans up, cooled down to about 63. I mean, it's pretty stable, just too hot for my liking. Would be nice to get around 50ish.

Thanks for the advice!

I have the silmilar problem in last couple days, it tun out the aftermark solution for G80 video card is quite expensive, the cheap solution will cost some what $40.
hr03-gt, or arctic cooling twin turbo are over $50. the video card is worth around $150. so it is not really worth.
I remove the fan cover and zip tied a 120MM fan on top of the heatsink.
idle and load temp drop around 10 dgrees, which cost me about $4. i am quite happy with this cheap solution.

70 C is not terribly hot for a GPU. If that's really as high as it gets under load, I wouldn't worry about it.

According to the specs on the Arctic Cooling website, they don't make a cooler that fits both the G80 8800GTS and the HD4 series. Since you're going to be buying a new graphics card anyway, I would just wait to buy a cooler until you buy the new card.

Actually, they do make a cooler that fits both the G80s and the HD48xx series...the Accelero S1 Rev 2. I have an S1 Rev 2 on a GeForce 6800GS and will be putting another on my HD4850. God I can't wait till I get everything running.

Interesting that they don't list the S1 as being compatible with the G80 cards. The specifically state that it fits the G92 GTS, but don't put the G80 cards on the list.

No, it is because the S1 was never compatible with G80 cards. S1, revision 2 or 1 is compatible with G92 cards and 38XX, 48XX series and of course with lots of old cards, but it does not fit on 8800 GTS 320/640 or 8800 GTX.
