VGA cooler for GeForce4 Ti4200

I'm looking for a new heatsink/fan for my Ti4200, cuz the old one doesn't start up right away, and then starts squeaking after windows has already loaded as the fan starts rotating slowly. Sometimes the fan doesn't start up at all.

I'm looking for the cheapest solution, cuz I'm not overclocking it. And quiet would be nice too.

Any ever use this one from Vantec?

Are there any cheaper solutions? Is Vantec good enough quality to not have to worry about it?
 
A fairly large number of people with the exact same symptoms you reported have found out that they could lubricate the motor's top bearing. This hasn't happened to me, personally, but to others using these forums. Run a search or two on the forums and you'll find their success stories here. As I recall, the fan itself is often in the way and must be pulled off to get at the top of the fan bearing to give it a tiny drop of very light oil. Dip the point of a toothpick in a ten weight such as has been sold as "sewing machine oil" (I would avoid either 3 in 1, or WD-40 {and similar "penetrating lubricants"}, because a large part of the formula is made up of volatiles that evaporate, which not only stops the lubricating, but can in fact gum things up worse than the lack of oil is slowing it down now).

Thanks for the advice! It worked perfectly. I unscrewed the fan from the heatsink (there were 3 tiny screws), but left the power wire to the fan attaached. Pulled the fan out from the mounting and saw the bearing. The bearing had a little space to slide up and down, so I slid it all the way down with some pliers, and then used some hair clippers oil to lubricate it. Slid the bearing up and down and spun it around some to spread the oil, then repeated. Put everything back in place and it ran perfectly straight on the power up.
 
I pulled my ti4200 out so I could do this, but I couldn't get the damn screws out.. I ended up half way stripping one of them.
 
Hmmmmmmm....my Asus Ti4200 128MB fan hasn't been working for YEARS and I have only noticed yesterday it wasn't spinning 😛 The graphics card has been working flawlessly but I DO NOT PLAY GAMES ON my computer so that is probably why I didn't have any problems. Can't believe my system hasn't crashed because of it. BUT the dam vga hsf is HOT TO TOUCH though!

I am going to try this out tonight also. Take the fan off and get a tooth pick and dip it in oil and then on to the bearing.

If that doesn't work I'll get a new vga cooler. Anyone suggest a quiet one? I'm not going to be OC it. I just want it to be QUIET.
