What kind of VGA cables should one use?
I recently had an issue where the vGA cable degraded the picture. The same cable had no degradation with a Win98 computer, but with a new build, it did have an effect with the integrated graphics chip/output and a new graphics card I bought. Changing the VGA cable resolved the problem. The degradation involved was could be described as as "astigmatism" with any thin vertical lines, including the edge of the monitor. Slight lines woulf vertically "ripple" to the right.
The poor performing cable had the markings of AWM 2919 80C 30V VW-1 Low Voltage Computer Cable (also thick).
Returning to my original setup replacing the VGA cable with a thinner one, I am having just a slight degradation in the picture, and I am hoping to remove that by using optimal VGA cables. Additionally, I have my monitor connected to a VGA switch so I can easily change inputs to the monitor between the computer and a game console. Should I continue with the thin VGA cables, and perhaps reduce their length as much as possible?
