That's a definate sign you are at an unstable clock on the GPU. If it was RAM, you'fd be getting artifact.

Back off abot 20 or so

Another person which confirms that if ram isn't o/cing past 800MHz with the stock cooler, it won't be able to do it with the Zalman too even though it uses ramsinks..
That's bad news since I'm finishing my custom w/c and probably I won't be able to go >800MHz in ram :( ..

You guys sure is the RAM or simply not enough Volt getting to the x1900. These cards are quite power hungry. A volt mod maybe?

Yeah crank the volts OP and see how this baby performs at 1.575 core volts!! (And memory too!!)

Thermaltake Xaser III Super Tower V1000 series.

That's got 4x 80mm fans?

It has 2 in the back 2 in thefront 2 in the side and 1 on top

right now I am running temps of idle 48-50 load 80-85-90, man I hope this thing is worth it, I will keep you all updated with results when I get it... till then

I installed mine today on my x1900xtx it idles @41 degrees cel. when I load Oblivion the temp goes up to 99 degrees Cel. then the screen goes black within 5 minutes and I have to reset my pc (i am using ati tool to log the temp). the AC Accelero X2 i removed to install this would keep my card below 75 Cel.

It is installed correctly and making good contact with the chip and the fan is working (I do know how to install a vga cooler I have 3 vf700-cu's installed on my other PC's). Is it possible for these things to break? I know it is installed correctly as I have removed it twice and verified the thermal compound is fine. Anyone have any ideas? this really sucks. $50 for this thing and now I am stuck as I have the memory sinks installed and will have to remove them to put the X2 back.

I dont know how you can possibly get 53C load with a x1900xtx, unless you live in the north pole or something. I just installed my vf900 today, flashed the card to xtx bios, and during a run or 3dmark06 the highest recorded gpu temp was 81C. That's better than the 92C I got with a zalman vf700, but I'm still confused how other people can be getting such low temps.

I had read somewhere else that the VF900 wasn't really sufficient to cool the X1900XTX under load. At idle it is wonderful, but who cares about idle temps as long as they are reasonable?

I would hope the vf900 could keep the xtx below 85 C otherwise they need to remove the x1900 series from there list of supported cards. Is it possible that the stuff contained in the heat pipe has leaked out? I am really stumped on this. I have triple checked this and still can not find any problems. It is strange that it would idle @41 C if it was not installed correctly (my AC X2 would idle @ 42-44 C depending on room temp.) this sucks my main pc is down now while i wait to hear from zalman (I dont want to remove the ram sinks as they do not stick to good once you remove them)

I don't know where you read that, but I'm getting nothing higher than 50-52 degress Celsius on my Sapphire XTX when in high load. Ran rthdrbl for an hour at 1692x9?? something (I put my temperature reading barely in the left bottom corner and stretched the image out basically to my max resolution which is 1680 x 1050.)

My stock cooler was getting 52 at idle!! I've even just switched from two 7800GT's and with the NV5R3's I had on them they would idle at 42/36. This cooler is awesome considering the ATI's typically run a little hotter.

I used AS5 though instead of the included thermal paste. I don't see how that would cause that much of a difference though...maybe a few degrees or 10 at most.

Hhmmm....2 side case fans=53 C load temps...Another thread reports high temps- fins are super hot to touch... In general people have VERY different results with this cooler...My guess is that the fan on this cooler is not moving enough air by itself (esp. in a closed case) to cool the heatpipe/fins down enough. If you have terrific airflow/another fan blowing on fins/heatsink=better temps?? Just a hunch. I think I'm going to have to take the chance though and order one...

wow, something's up. Faulty temp sensor? No way anyone is getting 55*C load unless they live in the north pole...like munky said.

I have the vf900 running at 12v, and I also used AS5. I ran RTHDRIBL for 25 minutes in fullscreen mode 1280x960, and the load temp leveled off at 77C. After a bios flash to xtx specs, the load temp went to 83C. That's about 12 degree lower temps than a vf700, and it's cool enough IMO, so it has the cooling capacity, but it may depend on case airflow. Also, instead of stretching out the RTHDRIBL window, use ati tool to log the temps and then run the stress test in fullscreen mode, I think it stresses the video card more than windowed mode.

Yeah definetly have to try this cooler out- 12 degree difference on a XTX from a VF700 (which I'm running now at about 78 C load) means I can jack the voltage a little more for a few extra Mhz!!

It never used to make a difference with my 7800's, but I tried it anyways (it is a different brand afterall). Fullscreen or stretched out window, the temps didn't do anything different. My fps were lower in the stretch view though by about 5-10 depending on the scene.

I live in Kansas. My case is a BTX style though. I wonder if on ATX styles the heat the Zalman disapates just floats back to the board. Wild guess-and probably wrong-but I don't know why the temps are so different. I just put one drop of AS5 in the middle of th GPU and leveled the card onto the upsidedown Zalman (just a typical heatsink installation). Also, my chipset fan is on 100% 7,550 rpms or something like that...it is a little loud, but maybe that is pushing air just right or something. ???

Either way, it is lookin good so far.

well I re-installed the stock heatsink and it still jumped to 99 C and then a black screen after 5-6 minutes of Oblivion so I assume the vf900 is OK just my card is hosed. Now my XTX is dead (PC will not post). It must be something with the way switches to full 3d mode as RTHDRIBL would only get to 53C after 20 mins. also the heatsink was not hot at all even though the card reported 99 C. this is a real bummer now my XTX is dead. I went and bought a BFG 7600GT to use while I RMA the ATI.
