Veteran Winamp user.. How's SONIQUE???

I tried it about 2 yrs ago.. I gotta say Sonique has some very slick looking interface!

but sadly, decoding was noticably poor compared to Winamp (now even better with Madcow decoder)

How's Sonique now? Does it sound better? how's the interface? hows it overall?

Sonique was pretty good I heard..

but i think it takes up a lot of the CPU Utilization..

that's one reason why i stopped using it..

Winamp is one of the few MP3 decoders that actually decodes MP3 the right way. And I also hate "round" interfaces with lots of graphics.

I dig Sonique! You might want to really worry about the cpu utilization if all you have is a 486 though. j/k

I use sonique for stability instead of winamp. Get the DMX plugin and it sounds just as good as winamp with that 'whatever its called' plugin/addon

I personally found Sonique's interface difficult to use, and to get used to. WinAMP's interface, ~1% CPU utilization, and small memory footprint make it my favorite, and total package. Pair it with the MAD plug-in, and Sonique pales in comparison. But it's completely subjective, you may find it better than WinAMP. It's worth a shot, what harm can it do?

I get sick of this comparison to Winamp so I decided to compare the two side by side just now with a Radiohead's OK computer album that I converted to 256kbps MP3s. Winamp did use less CPU% but Sonique was only hovering around 2%. As far as sound quality goes, when the same portion of a song was played on one and then the other Winamp sounded a little flat in comparison. Sonique does have a richer sound.

I used to use sonique, and kjolfol, and now Im back to winamp.
I'm down with the minimalism and minimal skins for winamp.

Sonique eats resources that I'd rather be used somewhere else, and it has one of the worst interfaces in recorded history. Winamp on it's own won't sound as good as Sonique, but get the MAD plugin and it sounds GREAT!

ok I'll get the MAD plugin for Winamp and DFX for Sonique and run another test. These resources you mention, I was looking at about 2% of my cpu with Sonique and 1% with Winamp. Granted that's twice as much, but who cares at that point?
